When Did Prayer Start?

We do not know when the first prayers were uttered.

Eve had another son and she named him Seth. “A son was born to Seth also, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the Lord.” Genesis 4:26 What is, “called on the name of the Lord?” We shall see that this phrase occurs often in Scripture. You will find that this is praying to God.

Abram went to Canaan and camped with his people near Ai and Beth-el. He builds an altar and calls on the name of the Lord. “From there he moved on to the hill country East of Beth-el and pitched his tent, with Beth-el on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to the Lord there, and he called on the name of the Lord…” Genesis 12:8-9a Later Abram’s son Isaac built an altar at Beersheba. “So he built an altar there, called on the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent there. Isaac’s servants also dug a well there.” Calling on the name of the Lord is an old act.

Trust God as Your Strong Tower - There is Security and Strength In His Shadow

Who among us does not feel that someone has prayed for us? We did not believe in Christ on our own. God has pursued us via the Holy Spirit, and people have prayed for us even if they only pray that the lost be saved. We should extend that same act of love for anyone not saved through their belief in Jesus Christ

He Suffered Because He Loved Us First

Whom do you claim to love that you do not talk to? A Christian cannot avoid or shirk their need to talk with God. Remember the thief on the cross; he was in dire-straights and knew he was about to die. Yet, he was able to speak with Jesus and make his plea. He found security in his believe. We also can speak with our Lord and Savior and know that He listens. He loved us first!

Your Prayer Closet: You have all you need - pray for strength!

2 Peter 1:3, 5-6, 10-11 “His divine power has given us everything required for life through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. For every reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection and brotherly affection with love. Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm you calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble. For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.”

1 Chronicles 16:11 “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”

2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power and love and self-discipline.”

1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be courageous; be strong.”

Isaih 40:29 “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your god: I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”

These few scriptures are a great place to ponder and formulate your prayers for God’s help staying on course. Heed what Peter tells us and seek God’s support through Bible study, prayer and yes, fasting. God is there to hold us up as we do His will. Peter’s comments above support, “love conquers many sins.”
